Red is the sophisticated yet cozy dinning area at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel Manila. It boasts of a French-inspired menu, with a touch of Asian influence, offering a wide offering of meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, cocktails and wines. It certainly makes an impression on guests entering the restaurant for the first time, seeing all that white with splotches of red in the room. But this contributes to the overall modern and exciting feel of the place. Though the food is quite pricey, with a good meal starting at around 1,000 Php, the artistic and imaginative plating of the food combined with original combinations of ingredients make it a great eating experience.

For starters, hot and freshly baked bread and butter with herbs are served as soon as you are at your table. This sets the tone for what you can expect at Red, good service and good food. If you like soup, then you would enjoy their Sampler Soup made up of three mini soups namely, minestrone, seafood chowder, and lobster bisque. To tease your appetite, Red serves the Red Appetizer Three Ways, another combination of unique ingredients. This is made up of seared foie gras with caramelized mango, crab cake with mustard aioli, and lastly a salad with buffalo mozzarella and tomato. For the French-Asian influence, try their Red Style Kilawin Lapu-Lapu Carpaccio served with chili vinaigrette and coriander and their Red Lobster Roll with Asian Pear. A nice touch to the restaurant service is that after the appetizer, a palate cleanser is served to prepare you for the entre. For their entre, meat lovers would enjoy their juicy US Super Prime Rib cooked the way they like it, as well as their Dark Soy and Sesame Glazed Pork Ribs. Seafood lovers, on the other hand, would love the Red version of Chilean Seabass and the Deep-Fried Cod with Red Chili Sauce. If you like duck or chicken, try their Grilled Duck wirh pomelo chutney, smashed sweet potato and rice paper, or their Grilled Free-range Chicken Breast with Mushroom Risotto.

For dessert, try the chef's original Milk Pudding of Burnt Chicken. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? Another interesting dessert to try is their bento box dessert. With this, you are served four exciting dessert composed of fruits, ice cream, chocolate and cheese cakes, and an olive oil with calamansi sorbet. Other dessert choices include Beetroot and Fresh Strawberry Layer, Yoghurt and Passion Fruit Cheesecake Raspberry, Yoghurt Ice Cream or Dalandan Jelly and Calamansi Pannacotta.

Red at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel is open for breakfast from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and lunch from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm from Monday to Friday. Dinner is served from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm from Monday to Sunday. Cocktails are from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am from Mondays to Saturdays and only until 12 midnight on Sundays. They offer an extensive collection of close to 200 premium wines. Red also offers areas to accommodate smokers and non-smokers.
